Mounds View at Roseville
7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21

Mounds View returns one of the state’s best players in Sydney Brodt, a Minnesota-Duluth commit who recorded 15 goals and 28 assists last year in helping lead the Mustangs to a 16-9-2 season.

Brodt played for the U.S. select team in the Under-18 series against Canada in August, and the senior forward will try to lead No. 17-2A Mounds View to a long playoff run this season. The Mustangs lost to Blaine in the Class 2A, Section 5 semifinals last year.

Defenders Bailey Thompson (11-15-26) and Kristen Cash (6-11-17) also return for Mounds View.

Roseville, which posted a 15-8-4 record last year, welcomes back junior forward Maddison Gaffney, who finished with 13 goals and nine assists, and senior forward Allyson Reilly (14-8-22).

The Mustangs and Raiders have long served as models of consistency not only in the Suburban East Conference but also in the state. Mounds View owns five state tournament appearances, with the last coming in 2014. Roseville has eight appearances but hasn’t been back to state since 2012.

The Mustangs and Raiders are both in Section 4 this season after Mounds View moved from Section 5.

Roseville (1-1) got its first win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Cloquet-Esko-Carlton on Saturday.

The Mustangs (1-0) defeated Champlin Park 2-1 with Brodt and Rachel Anderson each scoring a goal.
