Blake at St. Paul United
7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 5

St. Paul United and No. 1-2A Hill-Murray are the state's last unbeaten teams.

The No. 3-1A United (17-0-1, 3-0) will risk their record and find out how they compare to the state's elite in their first meeting of the season with No. 1-1A Blake, which won both meetings last season.

St. Paul United also missed out on a trip to state last year following a 2-1 overtime loss to South St. Paul in the Class 1A, Section 4 championship.

The United have built a solid resume with a 5-2 win over No. 9-1A Red Wing, a 5-1 win over No. 6-1A Proctor/Hermantown and a 3-2 win over No. 18-2A Forest Lake this season. They also defeated section opponents South St. Paul (7-1) and Mahtomedi (3-0).

Sam Burke (19-23-42), Sena Hanson (19-21-40), Joie Phelps (17-21-38), Lauren Boettcher (13-21-34) and Catherine Kerin (13-20-33) have put up big numbers and also helped St. Paul United claim the Hastings Christmas Classic tournament title with a 3-0 win over Park of Cottage Grove on Dec. 30.

The Bears haven’t lost since falling to the Pioneers 3-1 in the second game of the season. Blake and Hill-Murray tied in the Kaposia Classic Invitational semifinals on Jan. 1, but the Bears advanced after a shootout victory.
