Edina’s Olivia Kilberg got her team on the board first in the Class 2A, Section 6 championship game.

By the time she scored again, the Hornets’ party was in full swing.

A third-period eruption Friday at Ridder Arena resulted in four goals and a 6-0 Edina victory against Wayzata. It’s back to state for the Hornets, who finished third last season.

“It feels amazing; we just kept pushing,” Kilberg said. “The message on the bench was to keep a level head and throughout the whole game we did that.”

Goals from Kilberg, and Molly Myhre made it 2-0 in favor of Edina, the No. 1 seed in the section, after two periods.

Edina (19-7-1) dominated the final period, starting with goals from Sophie Slattery and fellow junior forward Anna Klein just 1 minute, 33 seconds in. Kilberg later added her second goal and CC Bowlby got on the score sheet as well.

“I was surprised but at the same time I knew we could do it,” Kilberg said. “The whole year we’ve talked about being a third period team.”

Wayzata (16-10-1) was the No. 3 seed and searching for its first trip to state since 2005.

Junior goaltender Anna Goldstein stopped all 22 Wayzata shots to earn her second consecutive playoff shutout.
