Hill-Murray waited until the end of the first period to get going on Thursday against Sartell/Sauk Rapids, but once the Pioneers got started, there was no stopping.

Laura Anderson scored the game’s first goal 15 minutes into the first. Kate Smith scored again with 11 seconds left in the period.

By the end of the night, Hill-Murray secured a 5-0 victory against Sartell/Sauk Rapids to advance to the Class 2A girls’ hockey semifinal.

Hill-Murray, the two-time defending state champions, also got goals from Abigail Boreen, Haylee Blinkhorn and Jac Kaasa.

The Pioneers played stifling defense, as well, in support of goalie Mari Johnson, who saved all of Sartell/Sauk Rapids’ nine shots on goal.
