Edina players skated past Eden Prairie goaltender Alexa Dobchuk in the postgame handshake line, their bare hands repeatedly hitting her blocker.

Pucks fared no better. Dobchuk blanked Edina, stopping all 25 shots faced to secure a 1-0 semifinal victory.

With the victory, No. 3 seed Eden Prairie (20-7-2) advanced to Saturday’s championship game. The Eagles won titles in 2006 and 2008.

Dobchuk, a sophomore, shined in the second period. No. 2 seed Edina (20-7-1) unleashed 17 shots on goal but came away empty.

“As I’m playing, I like to stay calm, support my team and make sure I’m doing the fundamentals right,” said Dobchuk, a sophomore.

Making matters worse for Edina, the second period also saw Eden Prairie’s Kelly Wolfe score. Teammate Sydney Langseth won a faceoff in Edina’s end and fired. The puck hit Edina goalie Anna Goldstein’s leg pad and came toward Wolfe.

“I saw a rebound and an open net and I just kind of took the opportunity,” said Wolfe, a clutch player who scored in double overtime to give Eden Prairie the state lacrosse title last spring.

Wolfe’s goal was the first Goldstein allowed in four postseason games.

Down 1-0 and a bit frustrated by Dobchuk’s second-period mastery, Hornets’ players remained positive in the locker room during the second intermission.

“Our team goal was to never stop believing that we could win,” Edina’s Grace Bowlby said. “I believe we left it all on the ice.”
