Rogers vs. Champlin Park
7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 22

While the Class 2A, Section 5 championship has traditionally come down to Maple Grove and Centennial, two other teams have emerged as possible contenders.

After strong starts to the season, Rogers and Champlin Park are showing they could make some noise come February.

The Royals (6-3-1, 3-1) lost two of their last four games, but the defeats prove they can play with some of the state's best. Rogers fell to Grand Rapids/Greenway 3-2 on Dec. 2 and lost 10 No. 10-1A Alexandria 1-0 on Dec. 10.

On offense, the Rogers attack flows through junior Paetyn Levis. The Ohio State commit is second in the Mississippi 8 Conference with 19 goals and 27 points.

Champlin Park (7-5, 5-3) is coming off back-to-back wins over Northwest Suburban Conference rival Anoka and Duluth.

The Rebels counter high-scoring Levis with sophomore goaltender Baleigh Shuck (224 saves).
