Edina vs. Centennial

7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 22

Two of Class 2A's best will meet this week when No. 1-2A Edina and No. 4-2A Centennial face in a nonconference matchup.

The Hornets (8-0, 1-0) continue their unbeaten season, however the defending Class 2A champions looked mortal while facing a tough challenge from Lake Conference foe Wayzata last Saturday, but the Hornets pulled away late for a 5-3 win.

The Hornets are anchored by forwards CC Bowlby and Loli Fidler, who are committed to Dartmouth and Harvard, respectively. Bowlby leads Edina with 12 goals and 10 assists this season. Her 12th goal of the year was an empty-net score on Saturday that put the finishing touch on the Hornets' win over the Trojans.

The Cougars (9-0-1, 7-0-1) are coming off a 1-1 tie to Maple Grove on Saturday. After rolling through its first nine games, Centennial struggled from a lack of fire-power against the No. 8-1A Crimson.

The Cougars' lone goal came from senior forward Gabbie Hughes, who leads Centennial with 22 goals. She and junior forward Anneke Linser have combined for more than 400 points in their high school careers and carry the torch for Centennial.
