Tigers Stop Snodgrass in 2-2 Tie with Eastview

Farmington coach Jon Holmes knew that if his team was to be successful against Eastview they would have to find a way to stop the talented Natalie Snodgrass who had tallied eight goals in her first four games.

The Tigers accomplished that objective, keeping Snodgrass off the board for the first time this season, in a 2-2 overtime tie Tuesday night at the Apple Valley Sports Center.

“Snodgrass happens to be one of the best female high school players in the entire nation,” Holmes said, “but our out five and the goaltending work of Emily Auge kept her in check. That was a moral victory.”

The victory could have been more than that as the visitors scored the first two goals of the night before holding on through the final period and overtime to forge the tie.

“We just didn't have enough gas in the end tank tonight,” Holmes said. “But I'm proud of this group for scraping together a tie when we could all tell we were just a little off in spirit and health.”

Ellie Moser (from Dani Wright) got the Tigers off on the right foot with her third goal of the season in the opening period and Marissa Agerter (from Maddi Oines) notched her third of the 2015-16 campaign at 10:10 of the second period to make it 2-0.

But the Lightning struck back a minute later on a goal by Allie Tuccitto and then tied the count in the third period on Cassidy Leininger’s score.

Eastview owned a dominant 26-9 shots-on-goal advantage through two periods and finished with a 36-18 edge in scoring opportunities.

“A lot of their shots were from well outside and around the point,” Holmes said. “We just needed to do a better job of getting picks on their net. When we did we had all kinds of opportunities.”

The Tigers also hurt their own cause by spending too much time playing shorthanded. They were assessed a season-high five penalties.

“It made it tough to get into a rhythm,” Holmes said.

Auge turned in another strong performance in goal, finishing with a season-high 34 saves.

The tie left the Tigers with a South Suburban Conference and season record of 1-1-1. Eastview stands 3-1-1.

Farmington jumps out of its conference schedule Saturday afternoon when it entertains Section 1AA rival Rochester Mayo at Schmitz-Maki Arena. Face-off is 3:00.
