Raiders assistant coach Josh Colvin was selected to replace Jeff Corkish at the helm of the Raiders.

It was like changing on the fly for the Hastings girls’ hockey team.

Raiders assistant coach Josh Colvin was selected to replace Jeff Corkish at the helm of the Raiders. Colvin has served as an assistant coach on Corkish’s staff since 2007.

“I am incredibly honored and humbled to have the trust of the Hastings administration, parents, and youth hockey boosters to be the third head girls’ hockey coach in Hastings history,” Colvin said.

Corkish resigned after 17 years of guiding the Raiders program. They finished with an overall record of 17-7-3 this past season.

Colvin credited Corkish for developing “numerous Division I and III athletes, a Miss Hockey winner as well as two other finalists, and two collegiate All-Americans.”

Colvin has also served in the Hastings Hockey Association over the last nine years.

Colvin said Corkish taught him to “surround yourself with great people, and luckily those people have agreed to and want to stay on to work with me and our girls.”

Northfield coach resigns

Northfield wrestling coach Mark Woitalla has resigned after 16 years at the helm of the program. He accumulated a career record of 190-149. Woitalla coached 33 state entrants, including two-time state champion Jordan Holm and state champion Jason Holm, during his 16-year tenure with the Raiders.

Top performance

Northfield freshman catcher Caroline Pritchard had two hits, including a triple, and three RBI in a 9-3 nonconference victory over Byron in softball action.
