Dec. 13: The Prowlers meet the Warriors in a Greater Minnesota Conference contest that will also impact playoff seeding.

Thief River Falls, ranked No. 4 in the Class 1A state coaches' poll, ended an eight-game winning streak with its first loss of the year, falling to No. 1-1A Blake 5-1 on Dec. 3.

The defeat is just the second for the Prowlers (10-1, 5-0) since last season’s Class 1A, Section 8 championship game, where they lost to Warroad 3-1.

A win over Eden Prairie, formerly top-ranked in Class 2A by the state coaches' poll, bodes well for Warroad, which continues to distance itself from a start to the season that included three losses and a tie in the first six games.

The No. 3-1A Warriors (4-3-1, 2-0-0) followed the victory with a 5-0 win over Duluth Marshall on Dec. 10, a game in which senior goaltender Emma Brunelle recorded her second shutout of the season.

Tuesday's meeting offers Thief River Falls not only a shot at redemption but also the opportunity to cool a Warroad team that's starting to gain steam, momentum the Warriors could use to challenge the Prowlers in the race for the Greater Minnesota Conference title. With plenty on the line, their matchup is our pick for the Top Game of the Week.
