Class 2A

Edina (12-0) is settled into the top-spot in the Class 2A Minnesota coaches’ poll, skating to a 2-1 victory over second-ranked Maple Grove last week to retain the No. 1 spot and all 10 first-place votes.

The Crimson (11-2), would be undefeated this season if they hadn’t played the Hornets twice so far. Nonetheless, Maple Grove is the undisputed No. 2 team, with 2-0 wins over No. 3 Eden Prairie, and No. 4 Elk River/Zimmerman.

The rest of the top-seven teams are unchanged from last week. Centennial (9-5) and Lakeville South (11-2) traded places from last week, checking in at No. 8 and No. 7, respectively, in this week’s poll.

The Cougars fell 7-2 to Edina last week, as the Hornets were able to hold Gabbie Hughes (21 goals, 30 assists), the state’s leading scorer, to just one goal.

Minnetonka (5-5-2) made the biggest jump of the week, going from No. 13 to No. 9 after a two-win week that included a 5-1 win over No. 12-2A Chaska/Chanhassen. It’s been an up-and-down ride so far for the Skippers, but they’ve enjoyed strong defensive play, headlined by senior netminder Elizabeth Kubicek, who has a .942 save percentage and a 1.42 goals against average in nine games this season.

After cracking the top-20 for the first time this season last week, Brainerd/Little Falls (13-0) fell back to receiving votes, despite a 3-0 week.

Class 1A

Blake continues its reign atop the Class 1A rankings, earning all 10 first-place votes this week. The Bears fell 3-1 to Eden Prairie last week, but the cross-class matchup proved to have zero impact on their ranking. However, a game against No. 3-1A St. Paul United this week will certainly count towards their rankings.

Warroad fell a spot to No. 4, after a 4-0 loss to No. 19-2A Shakopee in the opening round of the Warroad Holiday Tournament, leaving room for St. Paul United to jump to No. 3.

Proctor/Hermantown rounds out the top-five this week, moving up from seventh. The Mirage (11-3) have rose steadily in the polls thanks to the play of senior Brionna Stafne, a Bethel-commit with 13 goals and 26 total points so far.

With 27 of Proctor/Hermantown’s 60 total goals coming in the third period, the Mirage have proved to be tough competitors.

Red Wing cracks the top-ten this week (at No. 10), rising two spots from last week’s poll after wins over No. 20-2A Dodge County and Hudson.

Junior forward Taylor Heise, a Minnesota commit, leads the team and is the No. 10 scorer in the state with 23 goals and 12 assists.
