Claire Butorac dominated the three-game tournament, finishing with nine points.

The Andover girls’ hockey team won the Silver Division of the Schwan Cup holiday tournament.

Claire Butorac dominated the three-game tournament, finishing with a total of five goals and four assists. The junior forward factored in all six goals in the Huskies’ 3-2 victory against Holy Family/Waconia and a 3-1 victory against Rogers.

Teammates Morgan Czech and Nicole Sedey each had a two-goal game in the tournament.

Perhaps the craziest statistical line in the Schwan Cup belongs to Alyson Niebur of Cambridge-Isanti. She buried three goals in a 15-second span as the Bluejackets romped to a 10-1 victory against Northland Pines (Wis). Niebur finished with four goals. Her Bluejackets won the Open Division.

Wrestling success

Elk River’s Sam Gibas, who led the Elks to an undefeated football season and the Class 5A championship, won the 160-pound weight class at the recent Rumble on the Red in Fargo. Gibas defeated St. Francis’ Tony Struntz 6-3 in the final of what is regarded as the most prestigious individual meet of the regular season. Lakeville North’s Wade Sullivan, who like Gibas shined in football last fall, finished fourth at 160.

Anoka finished second in the runner-up bracket at The Clash Duals in Rochester. Anoka, third in the Class 3A rankings published by The Guillotine, lost to second-ranked Apple Valley 34-15 in the final of Bracket 2.
