Tigers' leading scorer talks about her final year, long career

Krystal Baumann

Krystal Baumann has been a mainstay in Farmington's program for many years.

The senior is the Tigers' leading scorer with more than 40 goals on the season. Here is a closer look at Baumann:

Best movie I've seen in the past year: I can't pick the best movie I have seen in the last year, but my favorite movie of all time is "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ..."Hangin' Around" by Counting Crows; "Dust On The Bottle" by David Lee Murphy; "Slide" by Goo Goo Dolls.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me: Fun; hard-working; dedicated.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? I don't find it very difficult to balance both. I do all my homework in school, so I can just focus on hockey after school.

Favorite pregame meal: It doesn't really matter what I eat, but I always seem to score a lot of goals when I eat a hot dog before the game.

How did you get started in sports? I would always roller blade outside my house, and my neighbor saw me and told me that I was really fast and that I should play hockey, so I tried it out and loved it ever since.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... really nervous, but at the same time I just had a lot of energy and really wanted to beat out the older girls.

To get focused for competition, I ... clear my head and listen to my iPod so that I can't hear anything but the music.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Beating New Prague and going to state in eighth grade, and then taking second (in Class 1A) once we got there. (The Tigers lost to Blake 2-1 in the state final).

What did you work on in the offseason? In the offseason I work on a variety of individual skills, including endurance, speed, and quickness with on- and off-ice workouts.

What are your goals for the 2010-11 school year as an athlete? I would love to go undefeated in our conference and win it for the [second] consecutive year. The best thing that could happen though would be to return to the state tournament for my third time.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? I would change all the politics involved in it and the fact that parents also get too involved.

I know I have an edge on an opponent when ... I'm having fun. If I'm having fun in a game, nothing can stop me. That's when I have my best games.

When you have time off during vacation, what do you like to do? In the summer I love being outside, going to the beach and hanging out with friends.

Your favorite college or pro sports team and why? My favorite sports team is the Chicago Blackhawks. I love how they play and they have two of my favorite players, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp.

Do you have a secret talent – and if so, what is it? I am unstoppable at Dance Dance Revolution.
