Leading scorer for the Irish hoping to earn her first state tournament berth

Rachael Kelly

Rachael Kelly is hoping to help Rosemount earn its first-ever state tournament trip in her final season.

Kelly has 25 goals and 29 assists on the season. She has four game-winning goals.

The leading scorer for the Irish will play hockey at Bemidji State University in the future. Teammate Allison Micheletti is headed to Providence.

Kelly has also played soccer and run track at Rosemount. Here is a closer look at Kelly:

Best movie I've seen in the past year: "The Fighter."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "Just A Dream" by BOB; "Mockingbird" by Eminem; "Boys of Fall" by Kenny Chesney.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me: I get a lot of different things, but funny; crazy outgoing; spiritual.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? I usually get most of my stuff done in school. It's really nice practicing in our seventh hour study hall. That helps a lot.

Favorite pregame meal: Toasted peanut butter and cinnamon sandwich on game day. The night before, spaghetti.

How did you get started in sports? My parents are very athletic. I was just always very active in sports, so it was the next thing to do.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... really excited to be with all the older girls. I wasn't as nervous as I remember, but I was super excited.

To get focused for competition, I ... pray before with a few other teammates, listen to [music], and stick-handle.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Making it to the section finals last year. The past five years playing on a varsity team has been an all-around amazing time; something I will never forget. And this season!

What did you work on in the offseason? Shooting and running to prepare for college season.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? Checking.

I know I have an edge on an opponent when ... I just made a move and it's me and the goalie.

Your favorite college or pro sports team and why? The Wild. We have had season tickets for 10 years. It's something my dad and I always get to do, so I grew up loving the Wild.

Do you have a secret talent – and if so, what is it? I wouldn't say it's a talent, but I make this humming noise when I have too much energy. The new girls on the team were like what the heck when they first heard it, and sometimes it grows on people and they do it, too! And, I can solve the Rubik's Cube!

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... majoring in pediatrics , and will be married with kids. A big family.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? Play with a smile on your face because you love the game. Don't play how your teammates want you to play, play how your coaches expect you to play.
