GIRLS 16 & 17s HIGH PERFORMANCE STRUCTURE

Girls High Performance 16 & 17 Structure

Girls’ 16’s (Born 1997) and 17’s (Born 1996) Program Structure:

The High Performance 16/17 program consists of four distinct phases as follows:

Section Tryouts:

Each of the 8 Girls’ Minnesota High School Hockey Sections (A and

AA) conducts try-outs in their Section with a minimum of 30-40 players per Section. The

try-out process collectively allows a minimum of 240-320 players to participate. These

try-outs occur in March each year with 20 players selected to represent their Section

in the High Performance 16 and 17 Spring Festival. Each candidate will receive 4.5 hours of ice

time and a participant jersey. All candidates in these age classes are required to

complete a USAH registration form on-line and pay all appropriate fees electronically

prior to any on-ice participation.

Try-out Dates: March 1st-April 1st, 2013

Try-outs are held at various arenas by Section.  A list of firm tryout Dates, by section, will be posted by December 1st.

Cost: $80

Spring Festival Weekend:

The eight Festival teams have a maximum of 4.5 hours of practice ice that they may use at

the coaches discretion. All 8 teams play three games at the festival and each player is

evaluated by a experienced team of evaluators and coaches. The Spring Festival showcases

the top 160 16 and 17 year old players in the state. 54 players are chosen from the Festival

to advance to the Final “54”. All players in these age classes are required to pay the Festival fees electronically prior to on-ice participation.

Dates: April 19th-21st, 2013 at Plymouth Ice Center

Cost: $170

Final “54”:

Following the Festival, 54 players are invited to participate in the Final “54”

Try-out. The Final “54” players will be divided up into three teams and have a team

practice on Friday and games on Saturday within their age-group. On Sunday they will

play cross-over games with the other age-group. A team of knowledgeable coaches

and scouts will evaluate all participants, consult with team coaches and select the top

players from both the Advanced 16’s & 17’s. Selected players will represent Minnesota

Hockey at the USA Hockey National Select 16 and Select 17 Festivals in the summer.

All Final “54” players in these age classes are required to pay the Final “54” fees

electronically prior to on-ice participation.

Dates: April 25th-28th, 2013 at Plymouth Ice Center
