GAME DAY VOLUNTEERS

Volunteer Descriptions/Duites

Minor Officials  (Announcer, Clock, Scorebook, & Penalty Box)
·         Must work BOTH the JV and Varsity games.
·         Must sign in at the ticket desk and will be admitted free to the game.
·         JV Home Games start @ 5:15 pm and Varsity Home Games start @ 7 pm, please arrive by 5:00 pm or earlier.
·         If you are unable to work on the day you are scheduled, it is YOUR responsibility to find someone to cover it and let me know who your sub will be. I provide a list of Minor Officials to the RAC and if you’re not on the list you may not be admitted free.
Remember, even though you’re not wearing a striped shirt and skating on the ice, you are considered a minor official, thus must act like one. Do not make comments to(or actions toward) the On-Ice Officials, Coaches, Players or just in general about the game while you are in the penalty box or clock area. If you do not feel that you can act accordingly, please find a replacement.

Chuck – A – Puck
·         Set up the table in the front lobby or upstairs next to the trophy case  (tables/chairs are under the stairway in the lobby).
·         Get the “Bucket of Pucks” and Chuck-A-Puck binder from the HS Coaches Office.
·         Set out of the pucks on the table in numeric order.
·         Get out a blank tally sheet to write down who buy’s which pucks and write down any 10U or 12U RYHA girls players name who want to help you out (I would limit to 6), they can sell pucks in the arena for you and help you pick them up on the ice – let’s keep it to 10U & 12U girls players only.
·         Pucks are $1 each or 6 for $5.

·         Pucks will be tossed on the ice during the 2nd & 3rd period of the Varsity Game.
·         Right before the end of the 2nd period, count the money and make sure it equals the number of pucks you sold. Take ½ the money for the prize and put the other ½ in an envelope to hand in.
·         Closest to Center Ice wins ½ the pot.

You are responsible for picking the winning puck (an adult needs to do this, the kids can pick up the pucks). After the pucks are chucked, pay the winner, note the winner’s name on the tally sheet, put the completed tally sheet in the envelope with the money earned and give to Pam Johnston. Put the chuck-a-pucks away for the next home game and put the table/chairs back under the stairway.

Assist with Junior Captains
·      Junior Captains from the RYHA Girls Mites/10U will be assigned for each home game.
·      Your job is to meet the Junior Captains at the front door, they should arrive @ 6:30 pm, make them feel welcome! When both girls have arrived, bring them back to the area by the Zamboni door so they can get dressed.
·      One of them will carry the flag around when the team steps on the ice at game time. Their names will be announced & they should skate out to the blue line when they hear their name.
·      They will stay on the ice until after the National Anthem, they you’ll open the door behind the goal to let them off the ice. They should not join the team huddle around the goal.

Once they get their skates off, give them their “gift bag”, invite them to stay and watch the game.   That’s it!

Oranges:
·         Please bring 2 large ziploc bags (1 for each team - JV and Varsity).
·         Cut into wedges, but NOT peeled.
·         Make sure to give each team their bag of oranges before their respective game.
·         This is an in between periods energy boost and refresher for the girls.

Chocolate Milk
Please bring 3 gallons of chocolate milk and 16 oz cups (there are 25 players).

Snack Pak’s: (Post-game recovery info recommends to refuel with protein and carbs)
Please bring ~ 30 Snack Pak’s (individually bagged) to the away game you are assigned.

Ideas:
·   Ham or Turkey on small buns, Bagel w/ Peanut Butter, Cracker Pack (w/ Peanut Butter or Cheese) Cheese Sticks … keep it simple!
·   Granola Bar, Fruit Snacks, Trail Mix, Cookie
·   Piece of Fruit or individual fruit cup (spoon also), Pudding Cup
·   Sports Drink (a small bottle is fine) or Juice Box
·   These are just ideas; you can definitely alter from this list, just try to pick healthy snacks.

Please bring the Snack Pak’s with you to the game and be ready to hand out to the players after the game; JV - after their game, Varsity - before they load the bus. One of the managers can help you out at the rink.
Up to $50 will be reimbursed by submitting your detailed receipts to Pam Johnston.
