Benilde-St. Margaret's at Breck
7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 11

Benilde-St. Margaret’s was the top seed in last year's Class 2A state tournament, where it finished as the runner-up to Hill-Murray.

The Red Knights (No. 7) lost nearly all of their top scorers to graduation and return only two seniors from that team: defensemen Xandi Swedberg and Maggie Conry.

It might stand to reason that a team relying on 10 underclassmen to fill out its roster would need some time to adjust, but Benilde-St. Margaret's (1-0-0) didn't seem to follow that logic, opening its season with a 5-2 victory at Spring Lake Park on Nov. 8.

Junior forward Sydney Simone scored two goals and forward Gabby Huson - an eighth-grader - had a goal and an assist in the victory. Junior defenseman Heather Mostrom and junior forward Crystal Sorem each had a goal for the Red Knights. Junior goalie Anna DeGiulio made 24 saves.

Breck (2-0-0) comes in as the No. 3 team in Class 1A and is off to a strong start with wins against North St. Paul and St. Paul United (No. 9) by a combined score of 12-0.

Senior forward Leah Schwartzman leads the Mustangs with five goals and also has two assists. Sophomore forward Grace Zumwinkle has a team-high seven assists and three goals, while freshman Gabrielle Billing has two goals and three assists. Sophomore forward Abigail Riskevich has one goal and one assist.

Junior goalies Sydney Scobee and Jenna Brenneman have combined to make 31 saves for Breck.
