Chaska/Chanhassen at Cretin-Derham Hall
Eden Prairie Mid-Winter Meltdown
11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 28

Chaska/Chanhassen meets Cretin-Derham Hall in the holiday tournament for the first time since 2013.

They split their last two meetings, with the Storm Hawks recording a 3-2 overtime win two years ago and the Raiders notching a 3-2 victory in 2012. But neither team has had much success at the event recently as both have finished with 1-2 marks in each of the past three years.

John Pohl’s young Cretin-Derham Hall team has started to hit its stride after a 3-3 start.

Returning just two seniors might have tempered expectations for the Raiders this season, but the play of six freshmen have dispelled those concerns so far. Cretin-Derham Hall is 5-0-1 in its past six games, including a 1-0 win over No. 6-2A Eden Prairie.

The graduation of Division I standouts Paige Voight (34-16-50) and Annie Boeckers (15-17-32) left the Raiders with one returning player who reached double digits in goals — Jordan Hansen.

After a 13-goal, 26-assist season, Hansen is helping lead the young group in her junior season with six goals and seven assists. Freshman Emily King (7-3-10) and sophomore forward Erin Meyers (4-6-10) have helped fill the void from last season.

Chaska/Chanhassen pressed No. 2-2A Minnetonka on Dec. 8, rallying with goals from Sofia Poinar and Emilee Anderson to settle for a 3-3 tie and snap the Skippers' season-opening eight-game winning streak.

With nine goals and 16 assists this year, Poinar, a Minnesota State recruit, has shown she’s just as dangerous as Storm Hawks' leading scorer Lydia Passolt (18-15-33).

After starting 4-4, Chaska/Chanhassen (8-4-1) is unbeaten in its last five games and is seeking a win over a top 10-ranked team in either class for the first time.
