Minnetonka vs. Eden Prairie

4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 6

Just five miles apart and Lake Conference foes, it's difficult to find two teams that are more familiar with each other than Eden Prairie and Minnetonka.

The past few years, this has included section play. The Eagles and Skippers have clashed in the Class 2A, Section 2 championship the last two years, with Eden Prairie coming out on top with 2-1 victories.

With both schools hovering around the top 10, there's a solid chance they could meet again later this season with a state tournament berth on the line.

The rivals meet for the second time this season on Saturday. The first encounter was Friday, with the Skippers, ranked No. 7 in the Class 2A coaches' poll, coming away with a 2-1 win.

Minnetonka (9-3-3, 1-0-0) was led by junior forward Kate Hoelscher in the Dec. 29 win. She scored two goals in the win and leads the Skippers with six goals this season.

For the Eagles (10-6-1, 1-1-0), it's all about goaltending. Eden Prairie's Alexa Dobchuk made 27 saves in the Eagles' loss but has patrolled the net in the Eagles' past two section-final wins against Minnetonka.

This season, Dobchuk has rebounded from a slow start. The Colgate commit has a 2.05 goals against average and .916 save percentage. She's allowed just three goals in Eden Prairie's past three games.
