Centennial vs. Blaine

7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16

The Northwest Suburban Conference North Division matchup featuring rivals Centennial and Blaine will also be a battle for positioning for the Class 2A, Section 5 playoffs.

Centennial enters Tuesday's game with the upper hand. The Cougars (16-2-1, 10-0-1) defeated Blaine 3-0 on Dec. 12 and lead the division by four points over the Bengals.

All season, Centennial has been led by a forward group that includes senior Gabbie Hughes. The Minnesota-Duluth commit scored in the No. 4-2A Cougars' 4-2 win against Anoka on Saturday, increasing her season total to a team-high 31. But she also can set up her teammates and recorded two of her 24 assists in Centennial's victory over Blaine.

The No. 6-2A Bengals fell to No. 7-2A Maple Grove 3-0 on Jan. 13, and the Crimson are closing on the the Bengals in the division standings.

Blaine needs a victory on Tuesday and motivation shouldn't be an issue against Centennial. The Bengals (12-4-1, 8-3-1) will also need a big game from leading scorer Gabby Rosenthal (31-24-55). The Ohio State commit was held without a point in the Bengals' loss on Saturday.
