Breck vs. Alexandria

11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 3

Alexandria finds itself in a familiar place heading into the the final week of the regular season: near the top of the Class 1A coaches' poll. The Cardinals are ranked No. 3.

Alexandria has made the Class 1A state tournament each year since 2013, and the Cardinals (17-6, 7-4) look primed to make another run to St. Paul. They are the only team in Class 1A, Section 6 with a top-10 ranking.

Before Alexandria enters section play, it wraps up the regular season with a tilt against fellow Class 1A power Breck in our Top Game of the Week.

The Cardinals have played a mix of Class 1A and Class 2A teams throughout the season and have victories over traditionally competitive programs, including Saturday's 3-0 win over Grand Rapids/Greenway.

Alexandria's success has come thanks to standouts such as senior forward Kristin Trosvig, who leads her team with 14 goals.

Breck has faced a similarly difficult schedule but has had a much bumpier road.

The Mustangs started the season at No. 1 in the Class 1A rankings but tumbled after losing five of their first six games.

Breck (12-9-1, 2-2) has slowly worked its way up the coaches' poll, landing at No. 2 this week after winning seven of its past nine games, including Saturday's 9-1 rout over Holy Angels.

Mustangs sophomore forward Olivia Mobley had a goal and assist in the victory, and the Quinnipiac commit leads Breck with 20 goals this season.
