Breck vs. St. Paul United

7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17

Breck and St. Paul United were participants in the Class 1A state tournament a season ago, and both have aspirations to make a return trip. On Thursday, they go head-to-head in a measuring-stick game as teams on different trajectories.

Breck has plenty of momentum after picking up two wins a week ago, including a 4-3 victory over No. 3-2A Wayzata.

Olivia Mobley and Minnesota-commit Sadie Lindsay co-lead the Mustangs (13-6, 1-1) with 20 goals apiece this season.

St. Paul United hopes to extend its run of Class 1A, Section 4 titles to four this season, which is no easy task considering the section includes No. 5-1A South St. Paul.

However, a victory Thursday could boost confidence for a St. Paul United team (6-9-2, 0-2-0) owning a record with more losses than wins due to a challenging nonconference schedule and residing in the Independent Metro Athletic Conference, a league that No. 1-2A Blake and No. 2-1A Breck also call home.

Jenna Hoops leads St. Paul United with 11 goals in 17 games.
