Elk River vs. Edina

7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1

Elk River senior Kelsey King enters this week as the state's season leader in goals with 40, and her most recent goal came at a crucial time for her team: 11 seconds into overtime to clinch a 3-2 victory over Cambridge-Isanti/Mora/Pine City on Jan. 22.

King may need to turn in another big performance on Friday to help Elk River (14-6-3, 9-3-3) hold off reigning Class 2A champion Edina.

The No. 2-2A Hornets (19-4-0, 6-0-0) have won five of their past six games, with the only loss coming on Jan. 18 — a 2-1 decision to No. 1-2A Blake, and they look poised to defend their state title.

Edina goaltender Elli Strittmater (17-4-0, 1.89 GAA) could hold the key to unlock a long Hornets' playoff run, and facing King should provide a good test for the types of scores Strittmater may face in the Class 2A tournament.
