Andover vs. Minnetonka

2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23

Last season ended for these teams in the third-place game of the Class 2A state tournament, with Minnetonka earning a 3-2 victory despite being outshot 34-17. That bit of past history, combined with lineups loaded with all-star talent (the teams have a combined 13 players committed to Division I schools) makes for a juicy early season matchup.

Andover (3-0-0, 1-0-0 ) impressed in its season opener, knocking off defending Class 2A champion Edina 1-0 on Nov. 7.

Minnesota commit Peyton Hemp, a junior, leads the Huskies with four goals and has seven points. Senior Jamie Nelson, a Minnesota State-Mankato commit, also has seven points.

New coach Tracy Cassano has Minnetonka (4-0-0, 0-0-0) off to a fabulous start. The Skippers won their first three games by shutout and have defeated their opponents — northern powers Roseau and Warroad among them — by a combined 32-4.

Minnetonka senior Lacey Martin, a Boston University commit, shares the state scoring lead with 10 goals and ranks second in points with 13.
