Stillwater vs. Minnetonka

7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 2

Stillwater rallied from an opening-round 6-0 loss to No. 2-2A Edina on Dec. 26 to win the consolation championship of the Walser Invitational on Saturday at Braemar Ice Arena, beating No. 10-2A Brainerd/Little Falls 3-2.

Junior Alexis Huber has a team-high 14 goals. Teammate Haley Eder-Zdechlik, a senior, has 13 goals for a Ponies (11-3-0, 8-1-0) team that boasts five players with eight or more goals.

The absence of top defenders Rory Guilday and Maggie Nicholson, who are playing for the U.S. in the U18 Women’s World Championships in Slovakia, didn’t hinder the Skippers (13-2-0, 4-1-0) enough to stop them from winning the Mid-Winter Meltdown in Eden Prairie on Saturday. Kylie Melz’s shorthanded rebound goal with 44 seconds left secured No. 4-2A Minnetonka’s 4-3 victory over rival No. 5-2A Eden Prairie in the title game.
