Warroad vs.

Gentry Academy

7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5

Warroad puts the road in Road Warriors with the first of its three February trips to the Twin Cities area and beyond this week. The 345-mile journey south to play Vadnais Heights-based Gentry Academy figures to be worth the nearly six-hour ride given that the Stars are off to a 4-1-0 start that includes a 2-0 shutout of No. 10-2A Holy Family Catholic on Jan. 22 among their victories.

Sophomore Cara Sajevic leads the Stars with five goals and nine points. Senior Audrey Jackson, committed to Saint Anselm, has four goals and three assists.

Gentry Academy, like Warroad, plays a mix of small- and large-school programs in an effort to become as battle-tested as possible for the playoffs.

Warroad senior Genevieve “Geno” Hendrickson is tied for sixth in the state in goals with nine and third in points with 19. Sophomore Talya Hendrickson also ranks among the state leaders with nine assists among her 15 points. An 11-time state tournament qualifier, the Warriors (4-0-0) won Class 1A state titles in 2010 and 2011.
