Photos: Edina stings Class 2A, Section 6 nemesis Blake in top-five matchup

Edina junior Emma Conner’s short-handed goal with 25 seconds remaining in the second period proved to be the game-winner as Edina defeated Class 2A, Section 6 rival Blake 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Blake Ice Arena in Hopkins.

Conner raced into the offensive zone and intercepted a clearing attempt as Blake goalie Molly Haag scrambled to get back into position. The Penn State commit then fired a shot into the empty net to give the Hornets, ranked No. 2 in the Class 2A coaches’ poll, a 2-0 lead heading into the third period. Conner finished with two goals and an assist.

Edina (16-1-0, 5-0-0), which has won sixteen straight games since losing 1-0 to No. 1-2A Andover in its season opener on Nov. 7, also got goals from sophomore Haley Maxwell and senior Katie Davis. Lily Hendrickson added two assists for the Hornets.

Blake senior Audrey Wethington scored her 13th goal of the season early in the third period for the No. 4-2A Bears.

Hornets goalie Uma Corniea made 22 saves and notched her 14th win of the season, while Haag finished with 19 saves for the Bears (10-4-1, 3-0-0).
