Q-and-A with Annie Buttermore of Mahtomedi's girls' hockey team

Annie Buttermore

Most memorable moment: Our team went to the state tournament my freshman year. It is a dream for anyone who plays hockey to get there. I will never forget it.

How old were you when you first put on skates? I started at age 3 in figure skates. When I was about 5, I put on hockey skates for the first time, After that, I never put on figure skates again.

How important is hockey to you? It is a huge part of my life. I love ... waking up in the morning knowing I get to skate after school every day.

Three things you couldn't play without: A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, an orange and black hockey tape.

Hockey is ...: The best thing that has ever happened to me.

Strangest thing experienced during a game: When I was playing U-12, a girl on my team skated the wrong way with the puck and was about to shoot on our goalie. Our whole team was yelling to her to turn around. We still laugh about it to this day.

Favorite part of a game: When the passing comes together with my linemates and we score with a joint effort.

One small tip before a big game: Take a lot of shots -- you can't score if you don't shoot.

What team really motivates you? South St. Paul. They are the most challenging team in our conference. You have to get past them to go to state. I dream about it.

If you couldn't play hockey, what would you do? I don't even want to think about that!
