Top performer winners

Mercury Bischoff, Grand Rapids/Greenway. The Lightning (9-5-0) forward is having an impressive year for a player at any age, let alone an eighth-grader. Bischoff recorded nine points during the Lightning’s two-win week. At Duluth Marshall on Feb. 23, Bischoff scored twice and added two assists as the Lightning won 5-3. She scored the game-tying goal on a power play in the third period before assisting on the go-ahead goal and finally sealing the win with an empty-net insurance goal. Against Hibbing/Chisholm on Feb. 25, Bischoff led the Lightning offense with a hat trick and two assists. She has recorded 41 points through 14 games, averaging 2.93 points per game.

Amelia Messer, Minnesota River. The Bulldogs, looking to avenge their first defeat in five games after losing 4-2 to New Ulm on Feb. 18, faced the Eagles for a second consecutive game on Feb. 23. Messer provided the goaltending the Bulldogs (7-5-0) needed to pull off the feat. The junior goaltender made 39 saves to record her second shutout of the season, helping the Bulldogs claim a 2-0 victory against New Ulm.

Top performer candidates

Kessey Aljets, Worthington. The junior forward nearly doubled her season points total in a single game as the Trojans (4-6-0) defeated Waseca 10-3 on Feb. 26. Aljets, who had 10 points through the Trojans’ first nine games, recorded eight points — six goals and two assists — in the win. She started her scoring with back-to-back goals within 58 seconds late in the first period. After completing her hat trick early in the second, Aljets scored three more consecutive goals in 2 minutes, 8 seconds late in the second period.

Three nights later, Bosch and the Royals battled Bloomington Jefferson to a 1-1 overtime tie, with Bosch recording a .972 save percentage while again making 35 saves.

Olivia Herzog, Owatonna. The Huskies’ (12-1-0) leader in goals and points continued to add to her team-leading totals as she led the Huskies’ two wins last week and helped extend their winning streak to seven games.
