Whether launching a shot from the right circle or streaking down the left side, Edina senior standout Emma Conner proved too much for Benilde-St. Margaret’s to stop.

Goals from Conner late in the second period and early in the third period sparked a 3-1 victory for the Hornets on Saturday in the Class 2A, Section 6 championship game.

“She showed up when we needed her,” Edina coach Sami Reber said. “That says a lot about who she is as a player. Because sometimes those big guns put too much pressure on themselves and they don’t show up in big games.”

Conner, who has committed to the University of Minnesota, answered the bell all season. Her two goals Saturday gave her 32 thus far for undefeated and second-ranked Edina (19-0).

The Hornets qualified for their seventh consecutive state tournament appearance, this time with a home ice victory at Braemar Arena. They finished second at state last season.

Late in the first period, with her team on the power play, Conner received the puck from Vivian Jungels at the right faceoff circle and let fly for a 1-0 lead with 1:25 left.

“I get a lot of goals from there because that’s where I usually stand,” Conner said. “I got a great pass and I didn’t want to waste any time.”

Patience led to Conner’s second goal. She beat a Red Knight defender along the left side, all the while recalling her plans for besting superb goalie Carly Greene.

Editor's note: A previously version of this story misidentified the player who scored Edina's third goal.
