Farmington sophomore defenseman Madison Kadrlik scored with 35 seconds left, giving the Tigers a 3-2 triumph over Lakeville South in the Class 2A, Section 1 final.
Both teams scored twice in the second period after a scoreless first period. Senior defenseman Jayden Seifert, who assisted on the game-winning goal had one of the Tigers’ goals.
Junior forward Ryann Wright had a goal and assist for Lakeville South.
Class 1A
Section 1: Maggie Hanzel has the flair for the dramatic. The senior defenseman scored with 8.9 seconds left, giving Rochester Lourdes a 3-2 victory over Albert Lea. It marks the third consecutive section championship for the Eagles.
Hanzel’s goal came 35 seconds after Albert Lea senior forward Josie Venam scored to tie it at two-all after the Tigers pulled their goalie for an extra attacker.
Albert Lea was seeking its first state tournament trip.
Senior defenseman Autumn Arcand scored on a shot from the point early in the second period, giving Rochester Lourdes a 2-1 lead.
The two teams traded goals in the first period. Eighth grade defenseman Mika Cichosz gave the Tigers an early 1-0 lead before senior forward Abby Wick scored the equalizer for the Eagles.
In another Class 1A final, Luverne defeated Mankato East 7-2 to win the Section 3 title.
In Section 8 Warroad became the first team to reach the state tournament in either class on Thursday with a 6-0 victory over Thief River Falls.
