Andover, Gentry Academy draw top seeds for state tournament

Class 1A games are Friday while Class 2A plays Saturday, all at Xcel Energy Center.

Defending Class 2A champion Andover and Class 1A tournament newcomer Gentry Academy drew the top seeds in pairings announced Sunday by the Minnesota State High School League.

Undefeated Andover opens play against Farmington on Saturday evening.

Gentry, based in Vadnais Heights, plays River Lakes on Friday evening. Gentry, which previously played an AAA traveling schedule, is in its first year of high school varsity competition.

Here are the matchups:

Class 1A quarterfinals Friday
11 a.m. Rochester Lourdes (9-8) vs. No. 2 Warroad (19-1)
1 p.m. Luverne (16-4) vs. No. 3 Proctor/Hermantown (18-0)
6 p.m. River Lakes (13-5-2) vs. No. 1 Gentry Academy (17-2)
8 p.m. No. 5 Mound Westonka (14-2) vs. No. 4 Chisago Lakes (18-2)

Class 2A quarterfinals Saturday
11 a.m. Centennial (16-5) vs. No. 2 Edina (19-0)
1 p.m. Alexandria Area (14-4-2) vs. No. 3 Minnetonka (15-3-3)
6 p.m. Farmington (11-8-1) vs. No. 1 Andover (20-0)
8 p.m. No. 5 Eastview (15-4-2) vs. No. 4 Stillwater (19-2-1)

The semifinals are April 1, with Class 1A games at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Class 2A playing at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

April 3 is championship Saturday, with Class 1A at 11 a.m. and Class 2A at 1 p.m., followed by the boys' hockey championships that evening.

All games are at Xcel Energy Center.
