The Hornets' talented depth vs. the Huskies' ability to come at teams in waves

Class 2A championship

No. 2 seed Edina (21-0) vs. No. 1 Andover (22-0),
1 p.m., Xcel Energy Center

Why Edina will win: “They have a lot of depth,” said Minnetonka coach Tracy Cassano, whose team fell 4-0 to the Hornets in Thursday’s semifinals. “And they do a phenomenal job of catching teams in transition. We’d lose the puck, and they would take advantage quickly.”  Edina lost to Andover in the 2020 state title game.

Why Andover will win: Eastview coach Herb Harvey, after his team lost 7-0 to the Huskies in Thursday’s semifinals, gushed, “They keep coming in waves. They do not have a weak point, so they don’t have to worry about matchups. And they are hard-nosed.”

Key to the game: Andover must play tough yet smart. Six of Edina’s past seven championship game goals came on the power play. The Huskies’ penalty kill has permitted two goals all season.

One thing to know: Both teams rely on sophomore goalies. For Andover, Courtney Stagman has won 10 of her 16 games by shutout in her first year as a starter. Uma Corniea, meanwhile, is starting her fourth consecutive state title game. She won the 2018 and 2019 Class 1A titles with Breck before transferring to Edina.
