The Warroad Warriors might lead the state in miles traveled this season. Two six-hour weekend drives to the Twin Cities metro and another to North Dakota are on the docket in 2021-22.

The miles are worth it with results like Friday’s.

Warroad, No. 2 in the Dec. 1 Let’s Play Hockey Class 1A rankings, dispatched No. 6-1A South St. Paul, 6-0, at Doug Woog Arena.

It precedes Warroad’s Saturday afternoon matchup at defending Class 2A champion and current No. 1, Andover.

First Report

A weekend trip to the Twin Cities metro got off on the right foot for Warroad.

A day before the Warriors, No. 2 in the Dec. 1 Let’s Play Hockey Class 1A state rankings, head to Class 2A Andover, they dispatched No. 6-1A South St. Paul by a 6-0 final on Friday.

Senior forward Madison Lavergne got Warroad (7-1-1) on the board with 7:12 remaining in the first period on the assist from Calilah Lindquist and Lila Lanctot.

The only penalty of the game against Warroad gave South St. Paul (1-4-1) a power play, but Warroad staved off a momentum change by scoring a shorthanded goal with 15:30 left in the second period. Kate Johnson was assisted by Talya Hendrickson.

Johnson scored her 10th of the season and second of the game in the third on an assist by Lindquist and Hendrickson. Lanctot added a goal from Maddie Skogman and Hendrickson broke loose for a goal from Abbey Reule and Katelyn Courteau.

Abby Chamernick tacked on one last goal from just inside the blue line from Lindquist.

Warroad goalie Kendra Nordick made 15 of 15 saves and South St. Paul’s Delaney Norman made 45 of 51 (.882).
