And the winner is...MN Girls' Hockey Hub Top Performer revealed

Athletes are considered for the weekly top performer poll only if their stats are entered on the MN Girls' Hockey Hub by 10 a.m. on Sundays. If coaches or members of their staffs need access to enter stats, please email mnhubs@sportngin.com.


Top performer winners

Maggie Malecha, Northfield. The Raiders battled Maple Grove to a 1-1 overtime tie on Dec. 21, thanks to some solid goaltending by Malecha. The senior stopped a season-high 49 shots—double the saves made by the opposing goaltender—including all nine she faced in overtime, posting a .980 save percentage. Malecha is 10th in the state with a .940 save percentage on the season.

Gretchen Paaverud, Anoka. The sophomore goaltender backstopped the Tornadoes’ first win in eight games as they eked out a 2-1 victory against Roseville. Paaverud held Roseville off the scoreboard through the first two periods and made 38 saves for a .974 save percentage on Dec. 23.

Top performer candidates

Kate Johnson, Warroad. The junior forward is a big reason the Warriors are outscoring opponents 74-16 through 13 games and have a 10-2-1 record this season. Second on her team with 38 points, Johnson is within the top nine players in the state in goals, assists and points. She recorded a season-high eight points in the Warriors’ 12-0 rout of Thief River Falls on Dec. 21, scoring four goals and adding four assists, including one on a power play.

Malia McKinnon, Forest Lake. The junior forward produced her second multi-point game of the season with an impressive five points in the Rangers’ 6-1 victory against Duluth on Dec. 23. McKinnon scored the Rangers’ first goal, eliminating Duluth’s one-goal lead in the first period 24 seconds after they scored. She then tallied assists on four of the Rangers’ other five goals, three of them on power plays.

Celia Midtbo, Minneapolis. The junior forward led Minneapolis’ 8-1 victory against Mahotmedi on Dec. 23, helping Minneapolis snap a three-game losing streak. Midtbo recorded her second five-point effort of the season, scoring four goals and adding an assist. Midtbo assisted on Minneapolis’ power play goal late in the first period before recording a hat trick in the second period. She scored her fourth goal of the game, a shorthanded tally, with one minute remaining in the game.
