Another Close One…and a Win

In a season that had already featured nine (of 18) one-goal games, the Tigers treated their fans to another nail-biter on Saturday, this one a 3-2 road victory over Prior Lake at Dakotah Arena.

The win lifted Farmington’s season mark to 8-11 and 6-8 in the South Suburban Conference.

We sure can find a way to keep things interesting,” Farmington coach Jon Holmes said. “We have been in a good position most of the time, regardless of the outcome. But it’s been hit or miss as to whether we make the play or plays that eventually decide the game.”

The host Lakers got the better of the play through much of the first period and took a 1-0 led into the second frame.

“We had all new lines, players were in new positions and we went into the game trying to get our own players uncomfortable to hopefully change up how we played in the defensive zone ,” Holmes said.

“After 10 minutes or so we put together the best and most complete stretch we have had as a team this season in terms of all three zones. We’ll need to take that mentality into a busy week and come ready to protect our defensive zone.”

The Tigers were outshot 11-10 in the second period but three of that number landed in the back of the net. Sam Moehle (from Madison Kadrlik) scored the first of her two goals of the night to get things rolling.

Reegan Werner (from Jenna Bethke) slammed home a power play score later in the second and after Prior Lake tied things up ,Moehle put the finishing touch on the win an assist from Ava Johnson. Moehle leads the Tigers in both goals (24) and points (37) this season.

The Tigers played solid defensive hockey in the scoreless third period, including skating off a shorthanded situation in the game’s final 47 seconds. The Lakers managed just five shots on goal over the final 17 minutes.

Prior Lake finished with a 28-26 edge on shots. Tiger goalkeeper Addison Moudry earned her seventh win of the season with a 26-save effort.

This week brings a three-games-in-five-nights marathon. Tuesday Minnetonka comes to town for a non-conference tilt followed by a pair of South Suburban Conference games: Thursday at Eastview and Saturday versus Eagan at Schmitz-Maki Arena.
