Top performer winner

Kara Ellis, East Grand Forks. The senior forward has played a part in each of the Green Wave’s four wins this season, recording at least two points in each of those wins. Though no different in the team’s 9-5 victory at West Fargo on Dec. 19, Ellis did so in a big way—by tallying a point on eight of the team's nine goals. Ellis had already recorded four assists less than 20 minutes into the game. She added three goals—including one shorthanded and one on a power play—in the final 31 minutes and added another assist in the third period as well.

Top performer candidates

Mackenzie Baumgardt, Northern Tier. The junior faced a season-high 63 shots against Buffalo on Dec. 19—more than double that of her opposing goaltender. She made 60 saves—nine of those in the overtime period—to help the Stars break a six-game losing streak with a 3-3 tie.

Abbey Lendzyk, Woodbury. Though a close game against Osseo/Park Center on Dec. 20, likely no one would have predicted five combined goals in the third period following just one goal in the first two frames. After scoring the game’s first goal early in the second period, Lendzyk notched an assist on the Royals’ second goal mid-way through the third. With the game tied and into overtime, the junior forward set up a teammate for the overtime game-winning goal 47 seconds into the extra period to give the Royals the 4-3 win. It was Lendzyk’s first multi-point game of the season.

Ilsa Lindaman, Duluth Marshall. The Hilltoppers have scored at least five points in five of their six wins this season, and Lindaman has been a big reason for that offense. The junior forward has recorded points on 25 of the Hilltoppers’ 35 goals in those six wins. She had her second six-point game of the season on Dec. 22, scoring the first three goals of the game and adding back-to-back shorthanded goals in the second period. Lindaman added an assist to round out her night as the Hilltoppers defeated Hibbing/Chisholm 7-1.

Janie McGawn, Blake. One game after recording her first shutout, the freshman goaltender faced a season-high 49 shots as the Bears faced Benilde-St. Margaret’s on Dec. 20. McGawn, who boasts a .943 save percentage through six games this season, allowed just two goals on those 49 shots as the Bears edged the Red Knights 3-2.
