So, coach Billy Hengen told his players that if they get a breakaway, they should “fake a shot and continue to the far post” since it’s tough to score on one of the state’s best goalies in Holy Family senior Sedona Blair.

Gentry Academy senior Ellie Sarauer took that advice and executed it perfectly with about two minutes to play in overtime. She had just come on the ice for senior Rachel Agerter during the penalty kill.

“Alexa (Hanrahan) saw me calling for it, and she threw it down. It was kind of a one-on-one battle, and I won that battle,” Sarauer said. “Then our coach was telling us, fake the shot and take it to the far post. I thought about that, and I did it, and it went in.”

Sarauer’s unassisted winner, her sixth goal of the season, came shorthanded and gave the Stars (13-1), ranked No. 3 in Class 2A in the latest coaches’ poll, a 3-2 victory over No. 7-ranked Holy Family on Saturday afternoon at Victoria Ice Arena.
