Tigers Prevail at Apple Valley

By Pat Rupp

Twenty-four hours after a sluggish performance in a 5-2 home loss to Rosemount, Farmington turned in a solid effort in a 4-1 victory over Apple Valley.

With the win the Tigers (11-4) solidified their hold on third place in the 10-team South Suburban standings, three points behind co-leaders Lakeville North and Lakeville South and three points in front of fourth place Apple Valley.

The visitors drew first blood 3:20 into the opening period when Morgan Mitchell scored on an assist from Jenna Goblirsch. That lead held for most of the first before Valley tied the count late in the period.

Goblirsch (from Norah Kratz and Shelby Mahowald) gave Farmington the lead for good with the lone goal of the second period and then the talented eighth-grader made it a three-score game midway through the third on assists from Mitchell and Amelia Goblirsch.

Payton Blom provided the exclamation point to the team’s eighth win in 10 conference games with a late empty-netter on an assist from Amelia Goblirsch.

Jenna Goblirsch had her fingerprints on three of the four Farmington goals, scoring twice and assisting on a third. Goblirsch leads the team in goals (16) and points scored (26).

Goalie Addison Moudry turned in a rock solid performance in the nets, stopping 35 of 36 shots. In doing so, the junior netminder raised her season record to 6-2 while lowering her goals-against average to 2.11.

Each team finished with 36 shots in the fast-paced contest.

The Tigers play a pair of South Suburban Conference home games this week, entertaining Lakeville South on Thursday night and Shakopee Saturday afternoon.
