Edina makes state for fourth season in a row

CLASS 2A

• SECTION 2: Edina has made it a habit to reach the state tournament. The Hornets shut out Chaska/Chanhassen 4-0 for the championship on Friday night at Bloomington Ice Garden, advancing to the field of eight for the fourth consecutive year. Megan Armstrong scored back-to-back goals for the Hornets during their three-goal second period. Maddie Dahl made 26 saves to record the shutout. The Hornets (18-4-6) have been the state runner-up each of the past two years.

• SECTION 5: Mounds View is back. The Mustangs will be headed to the state tournament for the first time since 1999 after outlasting Blaine 5-4 in the final in Roseville. Mounds View (21-6-1) made three consecutive state tournament appearances from 1997-99.

• SECTION 8: It's an even year, and that means Roseau is headed back to the state tournament. The Rams knocked off Sartell-St. Stephen/Sauk Rapids-Rice 4-2 in the finals in Bemidji. Roseau (19-6-3) will make its third state tournament appearance, the other two having come in 2008 and 2010.

CLASS 1A

• SECTION 4: South St. Paul has appeared in a state championship game six times since 1995. It will have a chance for No. 7 after shutting out Simley 6-0 in the final at St. Thomas Arena. Riley Viner had two goals and one assist for the Packers, who outshot Simley 46-6. Sam LaShomb added a short-handed goal and two assists. The Packers (20-7) were last year's state runner-up, falling to Warroad 5-1 in the final.

• SECTION 6: Looking for an underdog to cheer for at the state tournament? It's Detroit Lakes. Freshman goaltender Veronica Badurek stopped all 29 shots she faced, and the Lakers shut out Alexandria 2-0 in St. Cloud. Senior forward Brianna Seebold scored the only goal Badurek needed at the 6:28 mark of the second period. The Lakers (12-15) added an empty-net goal with 36 seconds left. Detroit Lakes will make its initial state tournament appearance.

• SECTION 7: Chisago Lakes denied Silver Bay its first state tournament trip, shutting out the Mariners 4-0 at the Cloquet arena. The Wildcats (20-7-1) will be making their third state trip.
