Edina girls’ hockey coach Laura Slominski underwent surgery Tuesday after suffering a neck fracture while playing in a women’s hockey game Sunday evening.

Slominski “went hard into the boards, back-first and suffered a C5 fracture in her neck,’’ according to a post on her Caring Bridge site.

The surgery, at North Memorial Medical Center, was scheduled to stabilize the neck fracture. A Caring Bridge post on the site shortly after 6 p.m. said, “Surgeon said everything went according to plan!’’

Slominski, who has coached at Edina since 2008, “can move both arms and legs and has full feeling in her hands, legs and feet,’’ an earlier post said.

Tuesday morning before her surgery, a YouTube video from Slominski was posted on her Caring Bridge site. She also thanked supporters for their thoughts and prayers.

“I am confident in the plan my doctors have for me and anxious to get past the surgery so that I can begin the recovery process,’’ according to a Caring Bridge post.

Slominski played high school hockey in Burnsville, where she earned Ms. Hockey honors in 1998. She played for the University of Minnesota and was captain in 2001-2002. She later was an assistant coach at the university and St. Cloud State University, and served as head coach for Bloomington Kennedy.
