Crookston, MN: The Pirates suffer a 6-2 lost for their first game of the year against non-conference opponent the White Bear Lake Bears at the Crookston Sports Center.

The Pirates started the game off well by keeping up with the Bears by putting up 4 shots with 5:00 left in the first period but after the 5:00 mark the Pirates got very sluggish and the Bears took the advantage of it and posted 11 shots on Pirate goaltender Lexi Cormican (Fresh, G). The Pirates started the second period a lot better and took it to the Bears in the second period by posting 10 shots compared to the 4 shots they had on the Bears goaltender Mae Moris (Jr, G). The Pirates also added two goals in the second period to add to the second period. The Pirates and the Bears both were even in the third period with shots being 7-6 in favor for the Bears. Even though it was the Pirates first game of the season and the Bears third game of the season the Pirates tried their best to stay competitive against a really good White Bear Lake team.

Leaders for the Pirates were Lizzy Awender (Sr, F), she scored both of the Pirates goals that were unassisted. Also helping the Pirates keeping the Bears under control was Tori Demarais (Soph, D), she had 6 blocked shots for the Pirates.

Leaders for the Bears were Kelly Lanigan (Jr, F), she scored 2 of the six goals for the White Bear Lake Bears. Another leader for the Bears was Mae Moris (Jr, G), she had 18 saves and stopped 20 shots and keep the Pirates to only two goals and she also posted a .900 save percentage in her third game this season.

The Pirates return to action at home at the Crookston Sports Center against a tough Section 8A opponent the Thief River Falls Prowlers at 7:30pm tonight November 18, 2013 and not on November 19, 2013 which was on the original schedule.
