Crookston, MN- The Pirates take their first Section 8A and Greater Minnesota Conference loss against the Thief River Falls Prowlers 8-0.

Coming into this game a lot of people knew that the Prowlers were one of the teams in Section 8A to beat as they are returning a lot of girls from last year which included Frances Marshall (Jr, G), Brandi Malwitz (Sr, F), Emily Bergland (Jr, F), Sylvia Marlot (Jr, F), and Tessa Jorde (8th grade, D). Marshall came out with a shutout which is her second shutout so far this season. Bergland, Marlot, and Jorde continued their scoring which all three of these girls all scored in the 8-0 victory against the Pirates.

Also the Pirates training staff were busy with a couple injuries that occurred during the game which one of them was Leah Trostad (Soph, F) which seemed to be an upper body injury and Lexie Cormican (Soph, G) seemed to have hit her head on the goal post while going down to save one of the many Prowler shots late in the second period but was taken off the ice and was taken into the locker room to be looked at but after the second period had ended she had skated off the ice on her own power and was laughing and smiling. In the third period the Pirates seem to keep the Prowlers contained as the Prowlers only got off 6 shots and scored one goal in the period to defeat the Pirate 8-0.

Leaders for the Prowlers were Brandi Malwitz (Sr, F), she had three assists for the Prowlers and no goals. Also leading the Prowlers was Junior goalie Frances Marshall (Jr, G), she had nine saves and got her second shutout of the year.

The Pirates next game will be against Brainerd/Little Falls which will be a non-conference game at the Crookston Sports Center on Saturday, Novemeber 23, 2013 at a rare time for a Saturday game which will be 7:30pm drop of the puck.
