Big second period gives Tigers tie with Eastview

Farmington erupted for four second period goals to erase an early 1-0 deficit but Eastview rallied for a pair of third period scores to forge a 4-4 tie in a South Suburban Conference contest played Tuesday night at the Apple Valley Sports Arena.

The standoff left the two teams with identical season (2-1-1) and conference (1-0-1) records.

“This was a disappointing one,” coach Jon Holmes said. “If you had told me prior to the season that we could go on the road and walk away from Eastview with a tie I would have been intrigued. 

“But after playing the game, it was a tough knock on the chin. We certainly have some things to take from the tie and will surely learn from them, but giving up a two-goal lead in the third period is not something we want to view as a positive…especially in this conference we need to take care of our leads.”

The Lightning’s Natalie Snodgrass, who finished with a hat trick, scored the only goal of the opening period to give her team the early lead.

The Tigers roared back in the second frame with four different players—Kenzie Hauswirth, Marissa Agerter, Shelby Klotz and Mikala Revels—finding the back of the net. Farmington took a 4-2 lead into the final period.

“We came out with some hop in our step and were winning races and getting the puck to the net,” Holmes said.

Klotz’s score was her first of the season. Revels registered her first career goal.

Erika Geary made it a one-goal game less than a minute into the third period and Snodgrass completed her hat trick with 3:26 to play in regulation to tie the count.

“We played tight and did not backcheck and pick up trailers the way we needed to,” Holmes said. “We definitely paid for it by giving up a couple odd-man rush goals.”

Neither team could find the scoring touch in the eight-minute overtime session.

Hauswirth, the team’s leading scorer with 10 points through her first four games, finished with a three-point night, adding a pair of assists to her sixth goal of the young season. Agerter also had an assist to complement her goal. Morgan Medved contributed two assists and Carly Simon had one.

Emily Auge had a busy night between the Farmington pipes, stopping 22 shots. Kaitlyn Pellicci, the daughter of FHS grad John Pellicci, finished with 26 saves for Eastview.

Farmington will try to stay unbeaten in conference play Friday when its hosts former Missota Conference rival Shakopee. The puck drops at 7:30 at Schmitz-Maki Arena.
