The Alexandria girls hockey team stuck with Mound Westonka on Friday but a second period goal by Hannah O'Borsky proved to be the difference in a 2-1 win for the White Hawks.

Mound Westonka scored just 30 seconds into the game on a goal from Liz Schepers, but Alexandria answered right back. Nicole Bartels scored at the 1:33 mark of the first period off an assist from Sam Klimek. That 1-1 tie is how the two teams went into the first intermission before O'Borsky scored the game winner at 4:04 in the second.

The Cardinals put some pressure on in the third period. They outshot the White Hawks 14-8 in the final frame and 27-21 for the game, but they couldn't find the equalizer down the stretch.

Amy Jost took the loss in net despite 19 saves and just the two goals allowed. Emma Polusny earned the win with 26 saves.

The Cardinals (5-2-1) will now play in Orono at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
