With the season winding down, two former Missota Conference rivals finally squared off in a Big Nine Conference game. But there was no waiting for Red Wing’s offense as the Wingers built a five-goal lead on the way to an 8-1 victory over Northfield on Thursday.

Reagan Haley scored four times, including the game’s first goal 7 minutes, 49 seconds into the game on an assist from Maddy Hardyman. Caitie Turcotte gave Red Wing a 2-0 lead into the first intermission with an unassisted tally at 12:08.

Turcotte scored again midway through the second on a feed from Haley, who then turned around at 10:15 and scored unassisted. Turcotte then hit Hardyman for a goal 1:14 later, followed by Northfield’s lone goal at 15:28 when Kate Boland buried a Brynn Puppe pass.

Haley closed the second period with a goal 0.2 seconds from the horn to give the Wingers a 6-1 advantage.

Haley’s fourth goal came 19 seconds into the third, then she assisted on Carley Marty’s goal that closed the scoring at 6:40.

Ashley Corcoran made 14 saves to get the win, while Mallory Tidona made 18 saves on 25 shots while Rachel Bielenberg finished the third period with six saves in seven opportunities.

Red Wing (16-4, 10-0 Big Nine) will head to Rochester Century on Saturday. The Wingers beat the Panthers 9-0 in Farmington on Dec. 29.
