Seventh-ranked Red Wing put its finishing ability on display Thursday in an 8-1 victory over No. 20 Northfield at Northfield Ice Arena.

University of Minnesota, Duluth-bound Reagan Haley scored four goals for the Wingers (16-4, 10-0 Big 9) including a goal with .2 seconds left in the second period from the edge of the left circle near the boards.

“That’s what you get from kids like that,” Raiders head coach Brent Bielenberg said. “They’re goal scorers. There’s a reason she’s going to play Division I hockey. That’s a different level kid probably top three in the state right now.”

Haley came into the game second in the state in assists (37) and points (66) but showed she can put some pucks away, too. Haley scored the first goal of the game at 7:49 of the first period on a shot that rang in off the top post.

Caitie Turcotte scored the first of her two goals in the game at 12:08 of the first after a puck got deflected into the net.

Turcotte added her second goal in the second period on the power play on an assist from Haley, who had six points in the game.

Haley notched her second goal at 10:15 on a snipe to make it 4-0 while Maddy Hardyman scored on a rebound before Haley scored her third goal with .2 seconds left in the period to push it 6-1.

Northfield’s Kate Boland scored her third goal of the season with 1:32 left in the period to give the Raiders (9-12, 6-4 Big 9) some life before Haley snuffed that out by completing her hat trick.

“Second period they kind of got moving when they went on the power play,” Bielenberg said. “Toward the end of that period we started getting some pressure.”

Haley tallied her fourth goal 19 seconds into the third period and Carley Marty added a goal at 10:20 on an assist from Haley.

Red Wing had 45 shots in the season’s first meeting in a 3-1 victory but Northfield limited the Wingers to 28 in the second meeting. The Raiders finished with 15 shots after getting just three in the first period.

“We lost track of people at times,” Bielenberg said. “You gotta cover all the time. A couple of those goals were just people alone that we can get.”

Northfield faces Albert Lea Saturday at Northfield Ice Arena at 2 p.m.
