A new high school girls' hockey season brings with it plenty of questions.

How will Eden Prairie respond after falling short of the Class 2A state tournament last year?

Can Breck break through in Class 1A, Section 5 this season? Will Red Wing continue its dominance in Class 1A, Section 1?

Will Class 2A powerhouse Edina find success after graduating Ms. Hockey winner Taylor Williamson and moving into Section 6?

Can New Ulm make an eighth consecutive trip to the Class 1A state tournament? Will budding Class 1A power Thief River Falls make another run to a state title?

Certainly all those questions, and many more, will be answered this season, but we chose to focus on two others: Can Hill-Murray win a third consecutive Class 2A state title? Will Blake return to the Class 1A championship game after winning the title the previous two years?

The search for answers to both questions begins Nov. 7 when the two programs, which are known for the strength of their schedules, meet in an early season matchup - one they both enter as the top-ranked team in their respective classes in the preseason polls released by Let’s Play Hockey.

The Bears have been considered among the best in the state regardless of class for several years, and they’ll get to see how they measure up against the Pioneers in our Top Game of the Week.
