Tuesday's roundup (Jan. 12): Goldstein's shutout lifts Edina over Chaska/Chanhassen

EDINA 1, CHASKA/CHANHASSEN 0: Sophomore Savanna Atol’s goal early in the first period was the difference maker for the Hornets in a matchup between two top ranked teams. Sophie Slattery and Anna Klein assisted on Atol’s goal and Anna Goldstein stopped all 30 shots to earn the shutout for No. 2, 2A Edina. Chaska/Chanhassen (No. 6, 2A) lost for the second straight game to a team ranked ahead it. The StormHawks were defeated 7-0 by No. 1, 2A Hill-Murray, a loss that ended their 11-game unbeaten streak (9-0-2)

BLAKE 4, ORONO 0: Carly Bullock’s hat trick led the Bears offense. She is second in the state with 34 goals. The senior has committed to play hockey for Princeton next year. Anna Kruesel earned her second shutout of the season with 34 saves, she also held Benilde-St. Margaret’s to one goal last week. Lucy Burton added the Bears fourth goal in the second period. Blake is ranked no. 1 in this week’s Class 1A poll.

HILL-MURRAY 8, MAHTOMEDI 0: The No. 1, 2A Pioneers had no trouble beating the Zephyrs in a Metro East matchup. Sophomore goalie Johanna Ficcadenti had 25 saves. Seniors Laura Anderson and Jac Kaasa scored two goals to lead the Pioneer offense. This was the 11th shutout for the Pioneers.

EDEN PRAIRIE 6, WAYZATA 0: The no. 5 ranked Eagles bested the no. 8 ranked Trojans. Sophomore Alexa Dobchuk earned the shutout with 21 saves. Senior Rachel Werdin led Eden Prairie with two goals. Lauren Oberle assisted on five of the six goals.

CENTENNIAL 3, BLAINE 1: The state’s leading scorer, Gabbie Hughes added two more goals to her season total to help the Cougars upset the No. 7 ranked Bengals, the junior has 36 goals. Gabby Rosenthal scored for the Bengals.

HOLY ANGELS 1, PRINCETON 1: Abby Welsch scored in the first for Holy Angels. The win was within reach with 1:07 left to play, but Princeton’s Larkin Walter tied the game on a power play. Leah Lood stopped 37 of 38 shots for the Stars and Kara Schramel stopped 36 of 37 shots for the Tigers to earn ties.

WHITE BEAR LAKE 1, EAST RIDGE 0: Sophomore Kailee Snyder’s goal early in the overtime perids gave the Bears their 12th win of the season, surpassing last season’s win total. Samantha Klemann stopped all of the Raptors shots. East Ridge goalie Chloe Heiting stopped 32 of 33 shots.

SHAKOPEE 4, FARMINGTON 3: Shakopee scored on goals from Courtney Siddorn and Ally Loiselle in the first period before Farmington’s Marissa Agerter answered. The two teams scored three goals in less than two minutes in the second period which lead to a 3-3 tie after two. With less than four minutes left in the third period Sarah Kubes claimed victory for the Sabres.
