The 2016-17 girls' hockey season kicks off Nov. 8 with two games that will help shape postseason play, as the St. Paul Blades battles Henry Sibley in a Class 1A, Section 4 showdown and Minnetonka travels to Class 2A, Section 2 rival Prior Lake.

Defending state champions Blake and Eden Prairie open their schedules a couple days later against a pair of South Suburban Conference teams.

The Bears, who won a record sixth state title after defeating St. Paul United 8-0 in last year's Class 1A championship, hosts Lakeville North on Nov. 11, while the Eagles, who defeated Maple Grove 3-2 in overtime to claim the Class 2A title, heads to Lakeville South on Nov. 12. 

The Crimson open their season Nov. 11 against a familiar foe in Edina. The Hornets lost 4-1 at Maple Grove in the season-opener last year but have home-ice advantage this time.

The United, who open the year at Rochester John Marshall/Lourdes on Nov. 10, must wait until the new year for a shot at redemption, with a rematch against Blake scheduled on Jan. 3.
